MICK “LOS” ANGELES

Multi-instrumentalist: Guitars, Bass, Ukulele, Banjo, Mandolin, Keyboards

Vocalist

Frontman

Mick was firstly influenced by Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix and Black Sabbath. He later ‘cooled his heels’ when he discovered Carlos Santana’s music. Mick’s first band was with his brother John on Bass and their good friend Austin on drums, playing instrumentals. They decided one of the three has to sing and he drew the short straw and hasn’t looked back.

Mick played the pub circuits with various bands but in 1978 found a niche in showbands. Being a natural comedian, this suited his style and he travelled extensively throughout north Qld with this showband. The band was musically adept and the comedy was ‘off the cuff’ referring to observations on hand. The band parted ways and Mick returned to Brisbane and formed another pub band successfully working each week around Brisbane and doing tours between Mackay, Gold Coast and Toowoomba. Their reputation grew and soon they were on the B & S circuit until a car accident put a sudden stop to that.

Mick played in other bands after that, joining a showband that was likened to Wicketty Wak. This is where he learnt the phrase “any five wallys can stand on stage and play but when you give them a show ….. you’re ENTERTAINING”.

Mick has played in Reggae bands, Country bands, Rock n Roll bands, Nostalgia bands and even a Zydeco band but he believes his best was a showband called Hanky Panky with four talented girls and himself with full on entertaining themed shows and music. Talented vocalists, harmonies, choreography, humour and entertainment.

Mick is now involved with THE WANDERERS with their replicative style of 50s/60s Rock n Roll and their versatilities to performing other genres to suit their audiences.
